Contract Guidelines for Mortgages

Contract Guidelines

Buying a home can be an emotional roller coaster. Once you reach the point in the process where you are under contract, keep in mind that the journey isn’t 100% through yet. There are still a few things left to do before you start planning the house warming party!

Once you’re under contract, it’s possible for home buyers to start to lose their focus, which can result in delays in the financing process or even affect your ability to secure a home loan.

Between the time you apply for your loan and closing, we recommend that you don’t apply for any new debts without consulting your loan officer. That includes co-signing on a loan, buying or leasing a vehicle or even refinancing.

Tips While Under Contract

  • Avoid taking any new debt
  • Consider delaying any job changes
  • Do not move money around or change banks
  • Stay on top of all your bills and do not miss a mortgage payment
  • Don’t spend excessively, especially with credit cards

Making financial changes even when you’re under contract can impact the home buying process. Staying on track of everything and consulting with us is the best way to make sure you avoid potential hiccups and delays with getting into your new home!
